Halfhide Lane Allotments
Bear Grylls, Chief Scout has done for the Scouts what the Credit Crunch has done for Allotments: growing your own produce is an enchanting pastime when work is considered recreation whilst making a wider contribution to the green and open space network.
The physical and mental health benefits to growers provides a refuge for wildlife too - no matter how dense or urban the environment, allotment communities thrive - and seasonal asparagus is mouthwatering just now.
It is such a rare treat to witness community cohesion: and prior to this morning's visit to Halfhide Lane Allotments, I doubt I would have seriously considered renting a plot or two.
Want one? Call 01992 785508 or e-mail leisure@broxbourne.gov.uk to find your nearest site: concessions available.
