Local people, local politics, local power

I am grateful to the Conservative Party that provided me with enjoyable opportunities to serve communities and also to the Association that selected me to represent residents who later elected me, to do a job, and I shall continue to do everything I am able to do my job, as a local councillor, loyally.

Loyalty
The Localism Bill starts a new era of people power, new rights for communities which will protect and transform local services, breaking about the old system with a massive transfer for power.

With the General Power of Competence local authorities can basically act in the same way as a natural person, except where restricted by statute, such as creating a new tax.

Douglas Carswell MP (blog)

So, where do you YOU fit in, as a natural person?

Perhaps within the ground breaking shifts of power that provide opportunities to restore civic pride, democratic accountability and economic growth:  see this government guide to the case for decentralisation.

For starters, How about Civilian Street Patrols?

We can be as bold, radical and as ambitious as WE want.  This is a once in a generation chance to CHANGE LOCAL POLITICS for the better.

Let US get on with it!

Most grateful for your continued support.  If you would care meet with me at my Surgery held at the Brookfield Centre, Cheshunt, please contact me on brookholme@talk21.com or call/text 07734057707 for an appointment providing your name, address and telephone number.

People Power : Greater Brookfield

The Localism Bill starts a new era of people power and Revolutionary new rights for communities will protect and transform local services ~ whilst local councils face a cut of up to 8.9% in the money they receive from central government 'the toughest local government finance settlement in living memory'.  Brown's Bureaucracy gone !

With the General Power of Competence, local authorities can basically act in the same way as a natural person, except where restricted by statute such as creating a new tax.

So where do YOU fit in, as a natural person?

An essential guide to the case for decentralisation, where ground breaking shifts of power provide opportunities, aided and abetted by The Big Society ~ restoring civic pride, democratic accountability and economic growth.

The Salt of the Earth

Fast away the old year passes, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la ...  ...

Christmas lunch at The Beaumont, Cheshunt made the season jollier for all the guests that filled the decked dining hall.

'Tis certainly the season to be jolly, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la ... ...

Guests hadn't a care in the world as DJ George encouraged everyone to their feet.  As they sang and danced together in elliptical orbit, spirits rose high; a visitor commented 'even Ebenezer Scrooge's heart would have melted today ~ at the sight of our unsung heroes showing us all how to live our best lives in times of austerity'.

Such merry measure, heedless of the wind and weather ~ lessons from our elders, the salt of this earth, on whose shoulders we stand.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."  Matthew 5:13–16

Hail the New Year, lads and lasses, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la ... ...

You wanna revolution?

We can be as bold, radical, as ambitious as we want.  This is a once in a generation chance to change our country for the better.  Let's get on with it!

The Rt Hon. Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 'more power to local authorities'.

This is not about a bit more power for you and a bit less power for central government - it's a revolution. We are the radicals now, breaking apart the old system with a massive transfer for power, from the state to citizens, politicians to people, government to society. That is the power shift our country needs today.

Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP, on 'Localism'.

Broxbourne Council's Electoral Review is in its second stage - take David Cameron's advice and embrace the power shift our country needs today by participating in the Review:-

Dying to belong

It is a striking moment when an elderly, disabled gentleman who lives alone begins himself to board-up a window, smashed by youths who have been taunting him for far, far too long.

Vandals are dying to belong to society and street gangs provide the company or "bro's" they seek:  many of these youths have been excluded from schools, they take drugs and drink alcohol and generally let their presence be felt by taking advantage of other vulnerable people.

Prison is often their livelong home ... where thesedays inmates are expected to work.

High Down Prison

Some have not quite reached this point but they are heading towards it, at speed, by playing truant, drawing graffito, vandalising street furniture, breaking fences and littering the streets.

'Cheshunt is a safe place to live' but when such incidents occur and the culprits are known to others, one wonders why those around the perpetrators of abuse, stay in their company.

One wonders too, when everyone is trying their best to ensure that our communities thrive, how one person can undergo such ill-treatment and remain strong.

Somehow, I shall raise the funds to replace the window, again, but good citizenship is not something anyone can purchase:  I need YOU to make it happen.
